New Yacht Club for St Lucia's Gros Islet

Like Doctor Martin Luther King, international entrepreneur Robert Crogan has a dream. His consists of the redevelopment of St Lucia's Gros Islet village, devastated by the nightmare that was hurricane Lenny back in 1999. Properties and 100 yards of beach, littered with ancient almond trees, were swept away in the path of the hurricane. All that remained of the 100 yards of beach was the reef—but that was enough for Crogan.

A yacht club is planned with a walkway and finger piers anchored from the remaining reef, training for anyone who desires it, and a plethora of stands for local vendors. After informal discussions with local government officials Crogan described their reaction as "very interested."

American Croghan's not new to developments. He's developed housing in Portland and commercial projects in Vancouver and Astoria all designed with local sensitivity.

"My vision is to include Gros Islet in the Caribbean yachting calendar, especially in St Lucia, increase security and raise awareness in what St Lucia has to offer for overseas visitors." Let's hope the dream one day becomes reality!
