Yacht Club of the Month - Casa de Campo

Situated to the eastern end of the Dominican Republic’s southern coast near La Romana, Casa de Campo is a breathtaking marina complex, built by Italian Architects Studio Fini. The resort itself is a Golfing mecca and on the Conde Nast Traveller Gold List.

Currently, the marina has more than 200 fully equipped docks, with a further 150 slips in development. The complex also includes residential apartments, restaurants and bars with the customs and immigration offices, yacht club and sailing school on site. The Italian connection runs deep - Casa de Campo Yacht club is twinned with Sardinia’s Costrasmerelda Yacht Club, whose instructors teach in the sailing school’s four J-24s.

When it comes to the Yacht Club building, there is little in common with the impromptu premises of some other Caribbean islands. Architecturally imposing, the Club has a lounge, bar and terrace that oozes Italian style.

Beyond the J-24s, the Club organizes the fledgling Casa de Campo regatta, or ‘Copa Orange’ in July. This year will be the fourth edition, with competition spread across racing, cruising, multihull and windsurfing classes. The first regatta attracted 22 entries, nearly all local, and 15 windsurfers and numbers continue to grow in both areas.
