Yacht Club News - Feb 05

The prestigious yacht clubs of Monaco and Anguilla are now twinned, following an agreement between Prince Albert of Monaco and Chief Minster Fleming.

This momentous union was marked by the arrival of the 65’ luxury catamaran Marie Helene, who sailed into Anguilla in early December, having left the Canary islands in November. The trip was largely organized by Gianfranco Comparetti, owner of the International Yacht Club at Blowing Point. Mr Comparetti plans to sail around neighboring islands before competing in the St Maarten Heineken Regatta in March.

This month’s highlights at the Antigua Yacht Club include the Valentine’s Race on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 and the Power Boat Rally Treasure Hunt on Sunday 27th February. As always, the club welcomes enquiries about ongoing events. Simply call 268 460 1799.

Our friends from the Marina Hemingway in Havana have a packed schedule. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Canada, the Yacht Club is celebrating Canada-Cuba boating week from March 13-19. This historic fiesta involves races, parties and a naval parade in Havana Harbour.

Jolly Harbour

Antigua’s Jolly Harbour Yacht Club will be hosting the second Mount Gay Run Regatta on April 9th. This event, sponsored by Mount Gay Rum from Barbados offers a fun pre-race week for visiting yachtsmen. And if the mention of Mount Gay Rum has your ears pricked up, read on. Each participant will receive an invitation to the Mount Gay Red Cap party to be held on April 22nd.

St Lucia

Most islands have their Round the Island Race, but few can offer the skipper’s weight in rum for the winning boat. St Lucia is one such lucky island. The Bounty Rum Around St Lucia challenge takes place on February 22nd – leaving participating skippers a little over three weeks to put the pounds on!

Trinidad and Tobago

The T&T Sailing Association once again made our deadline, bursting with news. The 5th Annual International Cancer Benefit Regatta will be held on March 12 & 13, with a popular Silent Art Auction taking place on the 12th. This latter event is always a success and this year the TTSA is hoping to raise TT$500.000.00 towards the T&T Cancer Society, more specifically for the Mobil Mammography Unit.
