Yacht Club News - Apr 07

Jolly Harbour Yacht Club, Antigua

Pippa Pettingell, now serving as the club’s press officer, reports that It’s been ‘All Change’ at JHYC this season:  “After the AGM in January there is a virtually new Executive Committee, and they are full of ideas to bring the Club out of the ‘Doldrums’. The 2007 Commodore is Brian Turton, and with the help of the new team, he plans to organise more events, including rallies for sail and power boats, and encourage non boat owners into the Club to sample the joys of “being on the water”. There will be a calendar of events for members showing the latest projects and people who wish to find out more should e-mail

“The ‘AYC Round the Island Race’ had a good turnout of JHYC entrants with the boats of Rik Gormley (Elethea), Tanner Jones (Blue Peter), Sandy Mair (Streaker) and Dr Bernie Wong (Huey Too), finishing in the top six. Congratulations to Huey Too for winning the Racer/Cruiser class. Also, ‘well done’ to another JHYC member, Hans Lammers, with Sunshine for winning the Classic Class.  Rik Gormley would like to thank the guys ahead of him who snagged a mark and moved it towards him, shortening his course by a good 200 yds! The party in Jolly Harbour on Saturday night at Castaways on Jolly Beach was well supported with a cross-dressing beauty pageant that saw some really gorgeous matelots. We cannot comment on the JHYC member’s participation here as they were all unrecognisable! A great time was had by all – Thank You AYC for hosting the whole event!”
